In the Footsteps of Cultural Heritage: A Journey from Past to Present with the "Blind Man's Buff" Activity

Dear Participants and Visitors,

As the AI Time Travelers team, we have blended traditional games—an essential part of our cultural heritage—with today's educational approach. Through our "Blind Man's Buff" activity, we aimed to support both the physical and cognitive development of our students while also fostering appreciation and preservation of our cultural values.

The game Blind Man’s Buff is a powerful learning tool that promotes 21st-century skills such as collaboration, empathy, trust, attention, physical coordination, and communication. This activity aligns with key values education outcomes like trust, respect, and solidarity, and can be integrated into subjects such as Physical Education, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Guidance. While its traditional nature enhances students' cultural awareness, it is enriched with game-based learning and participatory drama techniques.

Our activity was carried out in collaboration with four partner schools in our team and was structured based on the station technique. Each partner took responsibility for one station and completed a specific phase of the work. In the final station, all pieces came together, completing the process successfully. This approach enhanced students' abilities in division of tasks and taking responsibility, while also offering a rich environment for multicultural interaction.

During the activity, students researched the rules of the game, took on roles within their groups, collaborated to implement the game, and shared their experiences. Throughout this process, noticeable improvement was observed in their self-confidence, communication skills, and sense of responsibility within the group.

Team Members

The AI Time Travelers team is an international collaborative team consisting of teachers and students from different schools and countries. The Blind Man’s Buff activity was planned and implemented under the guidance of the teachers in the team. Each partner teacher was responsible for a specific phase of the process based on the station technique and provided guidance throughout to ensure effective student participation. In this way, both the transmission of cultural heritage and an interdisciplinary learning approach were successfully realized.

Game Selection and Introduction – Discovering Traditional Games

In this section, the history, rules, and basic features of the selected traditional game were introduced. Four different posters were created to explain each step of the game and support the description with visuals. These posters provide a clear guide for participants, helping them understand how to play the game. The visuals made the game more accessible and enjoyable.
